• Acetate

Our spectacles are handmade from Italian Acetate. The reason we have chosen to go down the handmade route is purely the quality. The material is much more flexible and strong in comparison to some of the other plastics used in the industry. This one is plant based.

We like the idea of a product that is not perfect. #Wabi-sabi. The idea that two products may look identical but will always have their slight differences due to them being hand made or hand crafted. We will start with a few popular and a few wacky shapes then we plan to release a bespoke range in the near future.

  • Aim

To provide sustainable plant based handmade eyewear. We aim become the number one online seller for handmade specs sunglasses and prescription lenses. Our price point, experience and attention to detail is what differentiates us from the rest. not to mention we have a very high flexible grade of acetate to increase the longevity of our frames (and you'll also look great in them).

  • Production

With nearly 20 years experience in the industry we have managed to source top quality lenses at a very competitive price point. Many customers are very shocked at how much we can save them. Also having always worked in optics we have a good idea of current trends and styles and feel we have a product to suit every face shape. Even for those who say ‘glasses don’t suit me’. Over the years we have noticed that size, specifically width of frames have been an issue for many people so we have created a range that factors this in.

116 YEARS OF AGE

My Great Grandmother Julianna lived until the age of 116. She had no health issues aside from the fact her vision was poor. If she had worn UV protected spectacles or polarised sunglasses she would have been functioning at full health. She is the reason for our obsession for eyewear.

Living in what we would describe as a shed on a steep hill. The shed contained an anvil or something similar bed and fire was all she wanted and needed aside from sunglasses.

A house was built for her on the top of the hill that she didn't come down from, of which she refused to live in as we tend to over complicate things. She was very active always sweeping outside and cooking on the fire and generally loving life.

She had even forgotten her own age. We had to work it out via other family members and we narrowed it down to 116-118 years of age. Her little sister worked on the market. it feels strange saying little sister about a 100 year old lady but she still had the title.

I couldn't really say much else about her except she was happy and healthy aside from her vision. Oh, she also had an iron that used to literally go on the fire.

Throughout my years in the optics industry I realised that many people don't wear UV protected sunglasses or handmade eyewear because their initial specs cost so much and didn't want to lay out the same cost for the few summer months we get. However we are trying to bridge the gap between high quality eyewear and cost as we appreciate this is not only fashion but very purposeful. Protect your eyes.

  • PROTECT

It's amazing to hear about your great grandmother Julianna's long life! It's true that taking care of our eyesight is important, especially as we age. Wearing UV protected spectacles or polarised sunglasses can help protect our eyes from harmful UV rays and glare, which can contribute to eye strain and other vision problems. It's wonderful that her legacy has inspired your family's appreciation for eyewear and the importance of taking care of our vision.

  • YOUR

That's a great idea! Designer eyewear can often come with a high price tag, which can be a barrier for many people in accessing prescription sunglasses. By making designer eyewear more affordable, more people would be able to invest in quality sunglasses that protect their eyes from harmful UV rays while also looking stylish. This could potentially help prevent vision problems caused by prolonged exposure to the sun's rays, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Additionally, making designer eyewear more affordable could also help increase access to prescription glasses for those who need corrective lenses but may not be able to afford them.

  • EYES

Becoming a frame maker was a great way to combine my design background with a passion for eyewear. It was important to pursue a career that aligns with my interests and skills, aswel as being something that actually helps people. While it's always important to consider practicalities such as education and training, don't let someone else's negativity hold you back from pursuing your dreams. I was told that I couldn't do it and used that as motivation to prove them wrong. Show them what you're capable of achieving. It's never too late to pursue your passions and turn them into a successful career. So go for it, and don't let anyone else hold you back!
